Recently, Forbes selected the world's most suitable companies for women to work for, and six Chinese companies, including Midea Group, were on the list.
The partnership with market research firm Statista, surveyed about 70,000 female employees of multinational companies in 37 countries and regions, and then ranked companies that support women in the workplace and in life.
Survey participants were asked whether they would recommend their employer to friends or family and rated their company's general workplace practices and gender-specific issues, such as whether men and women receive equal pay for equal work, how the company handles employee discrimination, and whether men and women have equal opportunities for advancement. The survey also asked the women to rate other companies in their respective industries, and then evaluated eligible companies to determine the proportion of women in leadership positions within those companies. Eventually, Forbes combined all of this data to create a scoring system that made it to the final list of the top 400 companies.
The report notes that Chinese companies need to look to a new vision when it comes to supporting women employees and leaders. Midea Group adheres to the principle of equal employment, and implements equal employment and basic rights and interests of employees in its global operations through a sound employment compliance management system. The company signs labor contracts in accordance with the law, strictly prohibits all discrimination based on nationality, region, race, ethnicity, gender, age and other factors, and the rights and interests of employees around the world can be protected in accordance with local laws, regulations, terms and guidelines. At the same time, the company prohibits the use of child labor, eliminates forced labor, and actively protects the rights and interests of female employees. In addition, the Group and its business units regularly hold themed activities to let employees experience an open and inclusive office culture, such as the "March 8 International Women's Day Special Salon Activity" to encourage female employees to express and appreciate themselves, and the "Retirement Thanksgiving Ceremony" held to thank employees who have served in the United States for a long time until retirement.
